LEGALIZATION WOULD MEAN:
- Responsible adults aged 21 and older can purchase and use marijuana safely.
- Hundreds of millions generated in tax revenue for law enforcement, mental health services, cities, towns, and counties across Indiana.
- Regulating marijuana similar to tobacco and alcohol to prevent access by minors.
- Closing down illegal drug dealers by establishing a safe marketplace.
- Creating thousands of new job opportunities for Hoosiers.
A SAFE,
REGULATED MARKET
Polls show over two-thirds of Hoosiers support legalizing and regulating marijuana like alcohol. A regulated market ensures marijuana is tested for potency and contaminants, protecting consumers. Clear labeling also helps buyers know exactly what they’re purchasing.
IMPROVING
PUBLIC HEALTH
Illicit drugs laced with dangerous substances are killing our young people. Right now, illegal drug dealers on the street are the real “gateway drug,” exposing individuals to dangerous substances and criminal activity. By legalizing and regulating marijuana, we would save lives by making marijuana safe,
lab-tested, and sold in stores – not the street.
CURRENT POLICY IS NOT WORKING.
LET’S FIX IT.
In 2023, law enforcement in Indiana arrested an individual for marijuana every 60 minutes. (National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). Regulating the market will free up law enforcement to focus on hard drugs and violent crimes.
CAPTURING REVENUE, CREATING JOBS
Many Hoosiers agree that Indiana is losing valuable tax dollars to neighboring states like Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio, where full adult-use marijuana is legal. By legalizing and taxing marijuana sales in Indiana, the state could not only keep this revenue but also generate new funds for education, infrastructure, law enforcement, and public health.
INDIANA IS BEING LEFT BEHIND.
As of September 2024, 24 states – including our neighbors Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois – have legalized adult-use marijuana. We’ve learned from these states what parts of legalization has worked and what hasn’t. Now is the time for Indiana to do it in the best way for Hoosiers.
